Ghost 0.5.2 shipped on **25 September 2014**—a follow-up to the larger 0.5 launch that proved Ghost could support editorial teams, not just solo bloggers. This guide explains what changed for publishers and theme builders, in plain terms.

## Editorial workflows matured

Building on 0.5’s multi-user roles, version 0.5.2 refined the admin UI with post-level **metadata panels**, optional **cover images**, and clearer settings menus. SEO-sensitive fields moved into the editor, reducing the need to hard-code titles and descriptions inside Handlebars templates.

By 0.5.2, Ghost was positioning itself as professional publishing software on Node.js.

## Theme API gains

Developers received the `{{#is}}` conditional helper, support for custom tag templates, richer image fields, and updated `{{ghost_head}}` output. Themes started behaving like views over structured content rather than static HTML wrappers.

## API reliability

A new configuration API endpoint arrived alongside cache-control fixes on JSON routes. Because Ghost admin consumes the same API surface, stability here benefited every integration built on top of the platform.

## Upgrade cautions

- Embedding Ghost as an npm module required explicit bootstrapping after 0.5.2.
- Mail settings moved from `mail.fromaddress` to `mail.from`.
- The heading shortcut became Ctrl/⌘ + H.

## Context today

Modern Ghost sites cannot jump from 0.5.x to current releases directly—the path runs through [Ghost 1.0](https://discoverghost.com/blog/ghost-1-0-release-guide/) first. Treat 0.5.2 as the release that validated team publishing and public JSON APIs.
