Ghost 1.0: The Editor Rewrite That Defined Modern Ghost
Ghost 1.0 (July 2017) shipped a structured editor, admin redesign, and the first mandatory migration from 0.x. Essential context for theme developers and anyone upgrading legacy installs.

Ghost 1.0 landed on 27 July 2017 as the project’s hundredth release—and its first intentional break from the 0.x line. Nearly every architectural choice in modern Ghost traces back to this milestone.
A daily-driver editor
The Markdown-only flow gave way to a structured writing environment with tables, multiple Markdown dialects, split preview, and a redesigned toolbar. Scheduling sat front-and-center, list filtering improved, and collision detection prevented silent overwrites when two authors edited the same post.

Platform changes developers felt
- Environment-specific config via nconf replaced monolithic settings files.
- Structured logs landed under
content/logs/. - The Public API beta became on by default—accelerating headless setups.
- Theme breaking changes: renamed image helpers, moved client utilities, internal tags graduated from labs.
Migration is mandatory
There is no supported path from Ghost 0.11.x to 2.0+ without passing through 1.0. Run GScan on your theme, regenerate API credentials, and plan export/import if database migration is not viable.
